Julio Granda Zúñiga


Julio was born on February 25, 1967 and learned to play chess at the age of 5. At 13 he won the childhood world of Mexico. At 19, he obtained the title of Grand Master International, winning the tournaments of Bayamo and La Havana 1986. In 1990 she obtained several victories in Spain.

In mid-1998, after some opaque performances, he left chess to pass the policy and try to be the Mayor of their city; that experience was negative, also leaving politics to continue agriculture.

He returned to the Board in 2002. It played the Peruvian Championship, which he won easily, as preparation for the Bled Olympiad.

He has won the National Championship six times and for several years was considered the best player in Latin America.

Between February 14 and March 8, 2008, disputed the II Tournament Iberoamerican chess Linares-Morelia, consecrating Ibero-American Champion after beating in the final to the my Eduardo Iturrizaga venezolano.

Julio Granda not studied opening theory. He asserted that he has only read a book of chess, the third volume of the General Treaty of Roberto Grau chess. In April 2007, Granda finished second in the Magistral Ruy Lopez, Category XV, held in Zafra, Spain, after Sargissian.
Open Tournament Champion "Villa de Navalmoral 2007" in Extremadura, Spain, tying Salvador del Río and Hichem Hamdouchi.
Runner-up in XIX International Chess Open "Villa de Roquetas", surpassed by the Spanish Elizbar Ubilava.
Champion Chess Tournament II  Linares-Morelias urpassing the  Venezuelan Eduardo Iturrizaga.
Champion XVII International Chess Tournament Linares-Baeza coefficient surpassing the Ecuadorian Carlos Matamoros.
Champion "V Valladolid International Tournament" with 7.5 points from 8 possible on December 20, 2009.
