Lázaro Bruzón


A Cuban native, from Holguín, to be precise, born in 1982, and currently the second best player from his country.

He took his first lessons along with her sister from a neighbor and from 1991 started to train in a more systematic way.

Later on, during his teenage years, he was named sub-20 national champion, but it's in 2000 when he wins the World Junior Championship, along with other important titles. Furthermore, he won the Cuban National Championship several times, in 2004, 2005 and 2007, defeating, in the latter, Leinier Domínguez.

In 2003, won the International Tournament elite group José Raúl Capablanca and made its first foray into a World Championship, but was unable to move from the preliminary phase.

The year 2004 was a prodigal Bruzón, although after qualifying in the Pan American tournament, returned to stay in the preliminary round of the World Championship in Tripoli, Libya, where his colleague GM Leinier Dominguez, recorded a strong performance at the end in the eighth.

At 22 years old, begins with a brilliant performance that leads to the title in the group B of WIGK aan Zee tournament in the Netherlands, a result which earns the right to be in the key elite in the 2005 edition.
